Why Now?
Life in Terra Mirim is beautiful but often not easy. Many of the community rely on the works of the movement in Brazil to earn money for the basics - food, accommodation and bills. Many places are struggling at the moment globally due to the impact of Covid-19, however Brazil is having a very specifically difficult time due to intense poverty making isolation impossible among other more complex political and economic issues.
Without being able to host their normal events or continue with normal day to day working life, and with no support from the Brazilian government, some people within the community are struggling to even provide food for themselves to eat. On top of this, the impact of a fierce weather system, so often a source of strength and support, can become a challenge. The need to constantly rebuild and strengthen buildings and homes after the rains and reroute watercourses (as a result of businesses tampering with water sources outside the community) becomes difficult without money.
Ritual Tribes of Bahia
On top of this, the existence of the many tribes in Bahia is now coming under threat more than ever. The needs of rural communities are very often neglected and forgotten during the decision making process by policy makers. The extreme right-wing and militarised government together with conservatives groups and organisations provide a very hostile environment that often threaten the livelihood and the very existence of such tribal rural communities. In order for the foundation to fight for its survival funding in these challenging times, it will be essential to pay for the necessary professional and legal support.
